Denne torsdagen beveger vi oss østover til Finland. Jeg fant den fine butikken til Niina på Etsy. Hun er opptatt av gjenbruk, fairtrade og økologiske produkter (hurra!) UKENS DESIGNER: Niina Mantsinen | Andy eats only candy  

1. Tell me a bit about yourself:

My name is Niina and I live in Joensuu, beautiful North Karelia. I'm 25 years. At the moment I'm thrilled with all my upcoming art exhibitions and projects.




2. What's your designer background?

I have studied textile design in Kuopio Design Academy in the year 2005 and after the first year I switched to North Karelia University of Applied Sciences. I graduated spring 2010 so I have been professional designer for about a year now. AEOC (Andy Eats Only Candy) was born in 2007.

3. Can you describe your creative prosess?

Talking about my pattern designing it all starts while my drawing process. I take a pen, my sketchbook, a large cup of tea if possible and start to draw. I never know what I'm going to draw - the drawing just comes out spontaneusly. I create the prints and patterns of my drawings, new and old ones. Screen printing and to see the picture on the fabric is my favorite part of the process.

4. Where do you get your inspiration from?

Riding a bike is one of the best sources of inspiration because it makes me feel so free and happy. Sometimes also being very angry creates really good ideas and spotaneous decisions. Other inspirational things are drinking tea, friends, Asamasa's music, travelling, art, universe...


5. What's your favourite motif?

Vesihiisi sihisi hississä- pattern. It has everything: memories from Berlin, gnomes, my intrepretion of Finnish mythical creature Hiisi, graffiti elements and a panda with a hat. Perfect combination.
